Auto-Install for Web-Apps - Achmed - 06-21-2008 11:01 PM

We are actually working on a "auto-install"-feature for ispCP in the German Corner.
This is to install Web-Apps like phpBB or Joomla from within ispCP.

Now we are at a point, were we have to choose, which kind of software-packages we want to support.
Should we create an own "ispCP"-package-system or use the already existing APS from Parallels.

The advantage in using APS is definitively the numerousness packages already available for APS.
On the other side would make us an own package-system more independent to all, Parallels maybe plans in the future.

Sorry for my bad english...i hope it was understandable.

Its a really great idea, and i think you should start with the APS system from parallels, to see if people likes it, and then after create your own system, so that both systems will work.

And btw, how long time do you think there will go before we will se a final version? Or just a beta version ?

Hello,

Parrallels is a company with propretary software.

Do you really want an open-source open minded app to use something from parrallels???????????? Do you have any experience with those people?????

Well i do, a while ago parrrallels took over a few other company's, one was psoft (owner of hsphere) you cannot believe what a mess it was .. people are still complaining .. a full community of webhosters (some have over 10000 hsphere licenses) parralles leave them in the cold .. everyone including me are looking for another cp.

Plz i really want nothing to do with || fuckers. try filing a support/bug ticket .. you will see

mata:

I understand your situation, but why not use their system as a start, until it can be seen if it will be popular, and then develop their own system ?

RE: Auto-Install for Web-Apps - ephigenie - 07-24-2008 07:24 PM

just to interfere a bit - once i was searching for an opensource application vault.
And i found one.

A developer had made a complete library including package format etc.
The big but :
Another opensource panel (i don't remember the name) included his source without mentioning him - so he quit working on his project.
Problem : i cannot remember either the name of the panel nor the name of the opensource project Sad

But perhaps we'd look into other opensource panels and maybe there's one which has also a application vault included ...
It would be nice if we can introduce or use a open standard for providing packages.
This is an important fact. As well as providing a public repository where everybody can upload new installation packages...
