I'm looking at a managed Linux server to start with, how do these spec's look?

Single Core AMD Athlon 64 3500+

Monthly Transfer Volume 2,000 GB
100 MBit data transfer speed
dedicated IP
firewall
100 MySQL DB's

if you don't have full control of the server ispCP won't work.

Please read some pages and take a look at the demo so you can see what stuff ispCP takes care of.

I should have full root control of that server according to the host.

As raphael quoted: With full root acess you wouldn't have a database limit.

The word managed is your problem, you need a 'normal' root server.

Also hardware specs generally mean nothing without the load you intend to expose the server to.

I'm sure a P3 800MHz with 512MB RAM and a 20GB IDE harddisk would do the job of hosting 50 static websites with no databases with low traffic levels but wouldn't think it would be much good with 300 high traffic dynamic content sites.[/font]

Unless you exercise some brain power and fierce negotiating to turn the word "managed" into the webhost installing and configuring ispCP for you on the box
