Rats try adding a domain with æ in it and then create a subdomain for that domain alias.

Edit:
If you change the mount point of the domain alias to hjaelp.dk and still keep the domain intact to hjælp.dk it works fine to add subdomains - But if you have the domain mount point to hjælp.dk it will cause problems.
